The Arts Council established the Arts Awards in 1969 to recognize and honor those who have displayed exemplary talent and support of the arts in the Greater Wichita region. These awards focus attention on the value of the arts in Wichita/Sedgwick County as they relate to our Arts Messaging Pillars, and honor those who have made major creative achievements or significant contributions to cultural growth or development.
Any individual, business, organization or institution currently residing in Wichita or the surrounding area who is involved in arts and cultural activities located in Greater Wichita at the time of nomination is eligible to be nominated.
Self-nominations and posthumous nominations are not permitted. Arts Council Board members, their family members, and any organizations with which they are directly involved are also ineligible for nomination. Individual artists who have previously received an Arts Award may not be nominated again in the same category in which they won, although they may be nominated in a different category at any time. Organizations that have received an Arts Award are not eligible for nomination again in any category for five years; after that period has passed, they may be nominated again in either the same or a different category. If unusual circumstances arise after the nomination committee has met, the Arts Council reserves the right to make the final eligibility determination.
Nominations are accepted from Kansas residents and organizations seeking to recognize individual artists, art educators, advocates, organizations, individual patrons, and patron organizations. Nominations may be submitted with or without the knowledge of the nominee.

Arts Awards nominations open May 1, 2027. Start thinking about your nominee now, and get ready to give their impact a well-deserved round of applause.
Award recipients will be chosen from among the nominees by the Arts Awards Selection Panel, which will include one member of the Arts Council and three arts professionals from greater Wichita. At the discretion of the panel, selections may include more than one award in a category. Conversely, the panel may decide not to give an award in every category if the total ranking does not merit an award.
