Investing in Wichita’s Artists
This rubric outlines how Artist Grant applications are evaluated. Each proposal is reviewed anonymously by a panel of arts professionals and scored across five key areas: artistic merit, project clarity, community impact, equity and access, and feasibility. This structured evaluation process ensures fairness, consistency, and alignment with the Arts Council’s funding priorities.
Total Available Points: 100
Artistic Merit & Quality (0–30 points)
30–26: Work is exceptional; demonstrates high skill, originality, and strong artistic voice.
25–20: Strong, solid work with clear intention and well-developed technique.
19–12: Competent work but inconsistent, underdeveloped, or unclear artistic vision.
11–0: Limited artistic merit; lacks technique, clarity, or originality
Project Purpose & Clarity (0–25 points)
25–22: Project is compelling, clearly stated, feasible, and deeply meaningful.
21–16: Purpose is strong but could be better articulated or scoped.
15–8: Idea(s) are interesting but vague, incomplete, or overly broad.
7–0: Unclear, unfocused, or missing connection to artistic growth.
Community Impact & Reach (0–20 points)
20–18: High potential impact; meaningful benefit to Greater Wichita area; strong engagement plan.
17–13: Good public value; thoughtful community benefit.
12–6: Limited but plausible community engagement; impact unclear.
5–0: Minimal or no demonstrated community benefit.
Equity, Access, & Inclusive Practice (0–15 points)
15-13: Strong commitment to inclusive practices, accessibility, and cross-community cross-cultural engagement.
12-9: Some awareness and effort toward inclusion.
8-4: Minimal attention to equity or access.
3-0: No demonstrated consideration of DEIA.
Feasibility, Budget & Readiness (0–10 points)
10-9: Well-planned, realistic budget; timeline doable; artist prepared to execute.
8-5: Generally feasible with minor weaknesses.
4-1: Red flags in planning, timeline, or budget.
0: Not feasible; unrealistic scope or unclear use of funds.
Below 80 points is not eligible for funding.
