Bio
Erin Mae is a freelance folk musician and mountain dulcimer teacher from Wichita, KS who has carved her own path every step of the way. Erin Mae received her first mountain dulcimer at age seven, then won the National Mountain Dulcimer Contest at age seventeen. She has a degree from South Plains College in Commercial Music, where she was the first student to study mountain dulcimer.
Erin Mae has toured and recorded extensively with the duo “Scenic Roots”, as well as solo and with various collaborations. Her dulcimer playing is featured on a dozen albums in many genres, including old-time, bluegrass, contemporary Christian, gospel, Americana, Irish, and folk. Erin Mae’s style is unique and progressive, with driving percussive rhythm and virtuosic melodic flat-picking. She has performed in 35 US states, Canada, and the UK.
In addition to performing and recording, Erin Mae is a dedicated music teacher. She has designed one-of-a-kind dulcimer and folk music curricula for both children and adults. She directs kids music camps at bluegrass and folk festivals around the country, and co-directs the Dulcimoon Virtual Dulcimer Festival. She also teaches extensively online and founded a virtual Youth Dulcimer Club in 2020.
