The Arts Council plays an active role in advocating for the arts at the local level. One of the most important ways we do this is by engaging directly with candidates running for public office.
For each local election cycle, we interview candidates for Wichita City Council and Wichita School Board to better understand how they view the arts, creative education, and cultural investment in our community. Every candidate is asked the same four questions, focused on how the arts intersect with policy, funding, and quality of life in Wichita.
In addition to these interviews, we also create spaces for open conversation. The Arts Council has hosted events like the Pints & Policy Social at Wichita Brewing Co. & Pizzeria in Delano, bringing together candidates, artists, and community members to discuss the issues that matter most to Wichita’s creative ecosystem.
Below, you can read each candidate’s responses in their own words. These insights are shared to help voters better understand where candidates stand on arts and culture, and to encourage informed civic participation.
Strong arts support helps build a stronger Wichita. Your voice, and your vote, help shape that future.
